While You're Here...

I entitled a Facebook post "While I'm Here", encouraging people to embrace their present circumstances and prepare for the future. I didn't go into much detail because I didn't want to orchestrate a paragraph, causing readers to simply keep scrolling without taking the time to read (which I'm guilty of doing myself). I will not make this an extended post like I've done many previous entries. I'll get straight to the point because the analogy is pretty simple.

My mother told me a few weeks ago about something Pastor Tony Evans of Texas said pertaining to embracing your environment, despite your desire not to be there. She said that he was telling the tale of a young lady who was told by God to spend an entire week inside a box with no light. He said that if she stayed inside the entire time without leaving, that she will never have to get inside again. Seeing that she will have full access to light and a mass amount of space after  completing the task, she decides to follow through with it. She steps inside and closes the entrance. Unable to see in the blackness thick as life, she begins to feel around, becoming startled when she touches sharp edges upon the wall. She feels all around her body, realizing that the sharp surface continues around the entire closed-in area. She immediately exits the box, afraid of that which she cannot see. God reminds her that all she has to do is stay for an entire week and she will never have to return.

She considers the fact that staying inside for seven straight days is far better than living with the possibility of ever returning. Entering the box again, she remains stationary, engulfed in the dark, afraid to touch the walls. A week goes by and God opens the box. She rushes out, embracing the light that touches her body, spreading upon her skin, blinding her eyes hungry for luminosity. God reiterates His promise by saying that she no longer has to endure the conditions of the boxed-in area. Relieved and curious, she asks God to expose the box's interior to appease the appetite of her uncertainty. He then opens the box as her eyes widen and she drops to the ground with her hands over her mouth. She finally sees that the sharpness of the non-visible walls were actually the edges of large diamonds. God then closes the box. She reaches for it before God stops her, saying, "Like I said, by staying inside for an entire week, you never have to enter again."

Most of us are in undesirable situations, whether it's a job, a living condition, or relationship. You may be miserable and eager to find a way out, but while you're there, learn from the experience and apply it to your future endeavors. We are so eager to request that God removes us from "the now", that we forget that we must progress in order to live well in"the tomorrow". The box you are in could be much smaller or even big enough to house several other individuals. You have to remember that the devil expects you to find no tangible resources, but God has instilled a survival technique in all of our souls. By giving in to your worldly doubt, you are missing out the best diamonds you never lay eyes on because you choose to embrace the dark as a lost rather than an opportunity.
