Batman's Secret

Years ago, a DC animated film entitled Batman: Gotham Knight came out on DVD. It was a collection of short films pertaining to Batman's past and present. During one film, Lt. James Gordon  asked him if he was okay after being bit by Croc, by which he answered, "I work through pain." If only it was that easy, right? It can be, depending on your perspective. Bruce Wayne as a character was trained to endure extremities , including bullet wombs, stabbings, and broken bones.  As a fictional character, it comes off very hard to believe that a man can undergo so much, yet still carry out his responsibility.

The thing about us is that contrary to Bruce, we are inherently gifted with sustainability. God has given us validation to withstand anything simply by instilling Himself in our spirits (Philippians 4:13). Our training comes through trials and consequences. No, God isn't punishing us, but simply chipping away at our former selves, making room for our natural upgrades. Bruce didn't ask to grow up in a rich house hold. He also didn't ask to be orphaned by the death of his parents.  Neither of us ask for the circumstances that we find ourselves in, but we can control how we perceive them. Bruce made it appoint to dedicate his life towards bringing evil to just that lurks during the night, preying on innocent people for personal gain. Though Bruce is still human, it doesn't prevent him from going toe-to-toe with genetically-enhanced super beings such as Superman ( The Dark Knight Returns ). He may not match their strength physically, but he does have the upper hand because of his intelligence and increased detective skills.

Why is this guy comparing us to a comic book hero, you may ask. Now days, the idea of heroes isn't a foreign concept, for even in a fictional world, the idea offers hope. If Bruce ceased swinging from roof tops, bombarding on the headquarters of local gangs or illegal organizations, Gotham would have no need to shine the bat signal amongst the clouds, signifying a promise. This is an agreement from Batman that whenever you need me, despite where I am or what I'm doing, I'll be there. The major reason why we fight through our pain is not only to get stronger, but to convince others they are capable of doing the same.

When you're at the bottom of  life's sewer, swimming in filth of your own or that of others, reeking of an odor that screams into your nose, you can either swim or drown.  The common factor in both scenarios is  that you're alive. Living to die is a waste of time. Waste of opportunities. Waste of love. God has a plan for you, something much bigger than your existence. He had a plan for Jesus that ended with nails, a cross, and blood. Though Jesus was hanging high, pouring from all punctured holes, he was working through pain. Working...on our behalf.  Muscle through it all and if you can, in the words of Isaac Carree, praise him "in the middle of it" (even when you're neck deep in metaphoric crap).
