An Old Rant, But Good One :)

Think of all the black advocates that lived before us. Think of Martin, Malcolm, and many others. They fought to get our feet in the doors. When we have times of crisis such as today where black men are gunned down for complying to protocols , we reiterate the teachings and marches they illustrated over 60 years ago. It is great that we reach back in history, reminding our present just how privileged we are. It is because of our ancestors that we count as one vote per person opposed to one fourth of a white male.  We have grounds in sports, economics, and education. We've even initiated movements, inventions, and alternative ways of thinking. We have hallmarked brands and buildings, leaving architectural foot prints on this planet. One thing that we are forgetting is that though they have gotten us through the front door, many of us have lacked access into the back rooms.

I am not demoting the works of our great advocates. I'm calling out all current personalities to finish what they have started. Martin has indeed seen "The Mountain Top", but it's time we start fighting in the valleys again so that we can regain rank and height. It's time to fight for our children who are yet born and have recently taken their first steps. As of today, if a teen turns on the television and take a 1 minute glance of the news, they will see their faces in either two scenarios--entertainment or homicide. They will be convinced that in order to avoid the ladder, one must obtain fame, acquire a lot of money and purchase comfort in society. Kanye West said it best years ago in his song "All Falls Down", stating "Even if you're in a Benz/ you're still a n**** in a coupe...". That is the way we are being viewed from white society, washed with learned hatred and ignorance. If no one else will speak, preach, and stand on our behalf, why not us?

This is my personal rant on the matter. Every minute, one of us are murdered, locked up, or charged. Not only is the media destroying our integrity, we are feeding it by making ill-advised decisions. It is not just external undoing, but internal as well. We can't change the world and the way they view us, but we can change our reactions and our personal assessments. Lets continue to rack up on our value. Continue to push and praise positivism, reminding our young girls and boys that bullets shot at us whether via a pistol or published articles will not kill our reign on forward movement. We wish not to conquer man or any other part of the planet, but to leave our marks, stating that we exist and possess souls like any and every child of God. God didn't see color and culture when He hung on Mount Calvary. He saw sin, which He took upon Himself, released the ghost, paying our inevitable debt. We preach God, yet don't practice Him. What is that? This comes from a primarily, Christain-based country that believes we are divided by tint and cultural differences. I don't get it and I don't want it for my children or anybody else's.

Prayers go out to families who have lost siblings, spouses, and friends to a sudden act of violence. People are preaching gun control when we all should be preaching control...PERIOD! Weapons do not have emotions, sense of right and wrong, and they don't have spirits, which makes it easy to kill someone who does. It's time that we speak through our music, our educational institutions, and election platforms , stating the importance of exerting good energy. I love you all and I wish us nothing but the best. If ever you're given the opportunity to give to the youth, whether it's a helping hand when they're down or a high five when they rise up, lets encourage them to have courage and use it.
