Nightmare Before Halloween
Nightmare Before Halloween
I could hear the future moving through the trees this morning , arriving with a question no swift answer could satisfy.
"Are we going to be okay?"
God instructed Abraham to kill a promise , allowed David’s head to sever and role , gave Job boils and his family’s funeral .
These are bad because they produce no good feelings from eyes untrained . We must break our hearts into new houses built from stone , brick , and forgiveness.
What happened to listening to what people don’t say ? We cant read their minds, but we can reach their hands , pull them close to ask, ”How can I serve you ?” It’s the hardest to offer , yet the easiest to surrender. When you tend to them , love tends to you.
October nights remind me of Snickers candy, orange soda and Hocus Pocus. Tonight , I smell fear cooking in a cauldron with a side of wayward worship .
There is a mix of dissonance and disarmed fighters gathering pistols and prayers . Both change lives , one ends them .
No warning shots to the shin or meat next to the femur bone, these are going straight to the opinions of a better nation with fewer stomachs growling for civility . Stay clear of proud patriots when the next term is activated.
Dia de los Muertos is next week for both countries. We remember those who lived , say their names so we know who they are—stars passing through to shine on a dark world using people to pay its electricity bill.
It’s cold in the sun and shade . No place to keep cool and calm, just refrigerated. We have become our own revenge best served unequal , unhinged, undone.
Falling over the sides , unto the stove , flooding the floor, we are consuming our nightmares, fracturing our dreams all because man wants to be God’s successor.
Sounds like a snake I know, like an angel we knew, like a chill moving through the trees before Halloween, excited , saying to himself ,” I have a party to plan."
