Chosen, Not Forsaken

It's not your fault. We usually hear that when something bad happens of which we have no control. This phrase pertains to all of what we declare as life's accidents, whether it's being in a car collision due to a drunk driver or being abused as a child. Neither should be taken lightly, but it's safe to say that we never wake up with plans to make things worst. So what do we say about being chosen? What if you were chosen to be the parent of a child with disabilities or chosen to lose both legs overseas while fighting for your country? I know you're thinking, really, dude? Though you may be placed in the position of being the only one, you are indeed given great responsibilities that affect you and everyone around you. Sounds like such a heavy load to carry, right? Imagine how Jesus felt over two thousand years ago. He literally had to carry our cross. Many of us wouldn't dare carry our own coffin, let alone lie down to be measured for it. Being chosen may seem to be a chore, but it's actually a challenge worth accepting, for through it, our potential is maximized and the glory reflects the greatness that exists in us all.

If you haven't figured out already, the picture above is of Lebron James. He's currently playing for the Lakers, probably the most celebrated NBA team...ever. He's signed a handsome, four-year deal that probably expires in 2022. He's been a sensation every since he was in high school, deemed as the next best thing to ever play professional basketball, hence, having "Chosen 1" as a tattoo. His numbers speak for themselves, so the phrase fits quite well. The downside to Lebron's skill and reputation is that he's expected to perform well every single game. Lebron delivered 25 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals back in 2003 in his NBA debut (talking about a good start). His standard was set and has been climbing every since. No matter where he was, whether in Miami or Cleveland, he was expected to execute! Kobe and Michael Jordan can surely concur on all levels. The irony in this photo is that Lebron usually has the weight of the team on his shoulders. He's always expected to achieve greatness, whether his teammates perform well or not. He didn't ask for that. Yes, he chose basketball to exhibit his talent, but he didn't choose what came with it. The outcome is always uncertain because you never really know how life reacts to your destiny. One thing you must remember is that it is indeed a privilege.

You my have coworkers who appear to get away with everything. You may have siblings that never receive as much critique on living as you do. It's not because you're weak, but because you're worthy. You are capable of holding the load, carrying it to where it needs to go, only to acquire another and repeat. You didn't ask for these tasks, yet you do have the skills to complete them. I can depend on you maybe one of the best compliments you can ever be given. I was actually told this by my fiance when we started dating. That meant the world to me. Gaining someone's trust is not the easiest thing to do, but once you have it, you have gold. I know its heavy. Your brow is sweating and everyone else is walking by, caring less about your struggle, especially when you're cleaning up someone else's mess. Continue on with what you do well because when someone is needed to do the job right, you'll be the first and only to contact.
