Jim Carrey (With a Coffin on His Shoulder) (Poem)

Jim Carrey lost his ex-girlfriend
to suicide in 2015.

Is it dumb to assume
that Jim Carrey is always laughing?
Or dumber to think his heart
voids all vacancy for pain?
If he wore The Mask,
would it hide the gravity
in his face, the clouds in his eyes?
I bet it’s been raining
in his life, flooding his body,
pouring into his canvases,
or hiding in his beard
next to ln Living Color episodes.
I thought Bruce was almighty.
pulling the moon with a rope,
but it looks like tying one above his head
would fit the verdict of whether
he wants to kill his career
or kill it all.

He’s heading somewhere
his ex-girlfriend will go to rest,
forcing her own exodus from
a world where Ace Ventura
couldn’t laugh her back to life .
Wearing black, it’s evident,
for a moment, that death
is stronger than Elvira,
more awkward than the Man on the Moon
watching others hold Oscars
for less pivotal work.
Will he contort into a comedy routine,
bring Jack Nicholson out
to speak with arched eyebrows,
or squint Clint Eastwood
into a five second impression?
Where he's headed,
we can't force him to turn back.
We will wait for him to remind us
of why God made him.
Until then, he will carry weight
like the rest of us, heavy
on all corners of the glossy wood.
Eternity isn't comical
when you run out of jokes,
making room for a lost
you didn't ask for.
