What We Have Done

God didn't do this, we did. We are to blame for the chaos and corruption. We didn't get it right...and we never will. That's when grace and mercy comes in, but...what if we're using it all up like our resources? One day, we will run out.The last thing we want...is for our bad choices to dictate the future. Looking up the lyrics to "What A Wonderful World" while walking to work, I thought of how ironic that sounds. It's NOT a wonderful world because it's not turning in a way we like. I wrote this piece to embody how many of us feel during this time...when we're in our feelings.

What We Have Done

I see cases rise, or are they lies?
The truth is revealed in lost lives,
but we think to ourselves,
what a wonderful world.

I see fights in the street, people playing police,
hard to see love based on their speech,
but I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.

The colors of the skin come in blends,
history makes foes out of lifelong friends,
I see anger and spite, might claiming right,
reminds me of crosses the sheets would ignite.

I hear rumors of change like a sports team name,
the president won't play if he can't win the game,
but we're convincing ourselves,
"what a wonderful world".
