Is It Worth It?

We ask this question very often, is it worth it ? It can be referring to our courting relationship with the opposite sex, undergoing the cons at our job, buying something we probably don't need, or making a decision in general. It may take a second or two,  maybe a few days to finally have an answer. If it takes that long, then whatever it is sure does have a hold of our indecisiveness. Our hearts have hard times giving definitive answers, but our minds usually come forward with quicker propositions. Thinking logically does benefit us at certain degrees. It can prevent us from adding debt to what we've already created. It can prevent us from investing in anything, receiving nothing in return upon the initial thought. There's a song on Lecrae's second mix tape Church Clothes 2 entitled " Was It Worth It". It's told from a son's point of view who was raised without the influence and presence of his biological father. He reflects on past experiences, wishing his father was there to share them with him. The chorus is asking the father despite " All these hearts that you broke, all these lies that you told, all this pain that you own, years all alone , nights away from home...", was it worth it all?

Doing now for now can be fun. It's an exhilarating feeling that pushes the blood through the entire body, head to feet. It creates your smile that hurts, even if what you're enjoying is slightly painful. Even your surroundings could mimic your emotions. The music can be lively as well as the people dancing to it.  The food can be delicious, the wine can be heavenly, even the illegal substances you may partake can send you somewhere without you having to leave your seat. Now that the night is over, are you prepared for the morning? Will you welcome the sickness, the regrets, the rock bottom? You then leave your heart to deal with the mess of instinct. Your mind could have filtered everything, but having access to the flesh's doings was prohibited.

Do you really want to do this is the voice that whispers inside of you, but because the mind and heart are out of sync, it leaves you to do everything at will. There's a saying my mother told me years ago that says "Think. Pray. Act." Everything begins with a thought. It is then processed through the heart where validation is required. Once it's approved, your actions adhere to the terms upon which it was created. The unspoken document in the process always raises the question, is it worth it?  Imagine being able to hold your decision in your hands, turning it over several times, reading every word. Acquire the additional mindset of doing now for tomorrow. If you approve, then whatever follows will be well worth it.

Transparency produces both good and bad, back lash. You risk getting judged , yet you persuade others to approach their inner demons with the ferocity of God's power. Like most of us, I've dealt with acting without praying or thinking. I've found myself in the empty well of my regrets, drowning in isolation, hungry for the light that pours down upon me. It is then where I assure that it indeed wasn't  worth it. Climbing out will be a challenge. Waiting for water can be scary and refreshing at the same time. Either way, ascending appears to be a far away concept. Ask yourself today, is everything worth the process? God is the only one that will utilize your pain, especially if He's allowing it. Don't think you can ever get too far into a choice for Him not to turn things around. I will say that if you can help it, think before praying so that your act will produce good.
