Open Your Heart, Open Your Mouth
Right now, there is an active shooter at Santa Fe High School close to Galveston, Texas. I don't have the details yet, but my first reaction was, here we go again. It wasn't a question, but a statement. This is our reality. I'm certain this is like taking a nap compared to countries overseas where children carry guns like school lunches. We live in a country that prides itself on freedom, yet we are becoming more chained to the idea of leaving our kids at home. It appears that bullets aren't bias, yet we are. I guess that's why guns are more catered to opposed to the lives they take. Childish Gambino's "This Is America" is playing in my head. The dancing is no longer distracting me from the violence beyond. The splattered blood, burning car, and white horse is clear now. Death is coming and apparently to the world, it has more power than God who took back it's key over 2,000 years ago.
When will it stop? As long as man has free will, it won't. 1,000 miles away from where I'm sitting, a student decided to bring fire arms to school and accomplish a task that included the possible death of several human beings. The second amendment is beginning to suggest that we as people have more authority than God himself. We can say who stays or decays by the pull of a trigger. Blood on a school's waxed floor isn't enough to regulate the distribution of weaponry. Many people will say, stuff like this happens all the time. Why are you surprised? I'm not. I'm bothered. It's becoming too frequent that America wouldn't be America without it. The same thing goes for racism and other acts of cruelty and inconsideration. Are we not strong enough to make change? Apparently not if this is what we've come to in 2018.
My question is what has happened to the heart. Is it going out of business? We appear to have more room in chest cavities for cute cats and small dogs than for parents and unarmed men and women. It makes no sense. Yes, everything is a distraction. Donald Glover, along with many others, got it right! We need to remove the filter and see the destruction for what it is. The horrific part is that it will get worse. More children will reach the grave before their mothers and fathers. Politicians will twist and milk the system long enough to adapt the way of the majority. The rich will get more money and the poor will get less food. This country is so haunting to be so historically helpful with acquiring "the dream". Do Americans dream of catching bullets to the body and degrading insults to the soul? Do we dream of justifying the killing of our neighbors with the need to protect by any means necessary , even if it gives all the freedom to load, lock, point, and kill...at will?
This...hurts. This consistency with devaluing life for the sake of law of the land. If these grounds could talk, they would cry. We need to start opening our hearts so that we can open our mouths. Being emotional isn't less valid than defending all rights by the constitution. Combining both is probably the only way most of us can understand the severity of what's killing our families. Death...is trending. Can you believe that? It is more popular than any social media account with more than millions of followers, worth more than Oscar-winning films, and definitely worth more than the validation of peers, friends, and relatives. Use your heart and not your eyes is what SWV stated back in 1996. It couldn't be more applicable. Be something, say something. The more we talk about it, the closer we can get to making a difference. Think of everything that has happened since the beginning of time. The more our mouths open, the bigger the opportunity for a progressive outcome.
